Yoga Class Idea: Offer Yoga Classes for Special Events

Part of the fun of owning your own yoga studio is the opportunity to be creative and have fun with new business ideas.

Yoga is more than just a workout or a fitness regimen.  Yoga can be and should be a celebration.

What better mindset could you impart to your students than embracing yoga as a celebration of life.  With this yoga mindset you have opportunities to celebrate yoga with your students and earn additional revenue.

How can a yoga celebration bring in extra revenue?

Offer yoga parties and special classes for student milestones and events.  Consider the following:

1.  Birthday yoga parties

Offer your students a discounted class rate for birthday yoga sessions.  Your student can invite friends and family to celebrate their birthday with a yoga class.

2.  Workplace yoga parties

Forego the party at the pub and encourage students to invite co-workers to celebrate with a yoga class.

3.  Reunion yoga parties

What better way to celebrate a reunion with yoga which means union?

4.  Private couple yoga classes

Offer private couple yoga classes around Valentine’s day or throughout the year for your students’ anniversaries.

I realize most people aren’t going to take you up on yoga celebration classes, but some of your students may.  It never hurts to offer it and promote it on your website and to your students.

As a yoga studio owner you could have the added benefit of celebrating important events with your students teaching yoga.

The above list is certainly not complete.  There are many celebration events that could include a private yoga party.

Tips for leading celebratory yoga classes

1.  Do something unique.

Make it special for the person who books it.  Come up with something new.

2.  Ask the student who books it what level attendees are at with yoga.

3.   Ask the student who books it if they have an preferred style of yoga.

4.  Invite the student who books it to hire a caterer to offer food after the class.

You could turn your studio into a party environment.  Of course, you’ll want to charge accordingly.

5.  Consider additional events such as massage.

Make the event extra special with massage for the attendees.  This may take some extra coordination with some massage therapists in your area.  The massage therapists could attend your studio after class with tables giving all attendees a massage.

6.  Don’t forget the decorations.

Invite the booking student to decorate your studio as they see fit (within reason).

7.  Offer gift bags with yoga and wellness treats.

Consider giving yoga gift certificates, DVDs, and any other yoga/wellness treats that would make a great gift bag for attendees.  Again, charge accordingly.

8.  Suggest your celebrant hire a photographer to capture the event.

Legal Consideration

You may need to contact your business insurance provider to ensure such events are covered for liability purposes as you’re veering slightly from your core business (especially if you invite massage therapists and caterers to attend).

Entrepreneur Considerations

  • Be sure your retail section is well-stocked.
  • Ensure your promotional materials are well-stocked.  Celebratory yoga classes are an excellent opportunity to expose your studio to prospective students.
  • Take photographs of the event (be sure to obtain signed authorizations to use the photos of attendees in any promotional materials).
