Prediction: Yoga Class Attendance Will Grow

If you teach yoga, are you concerned about the ever increasing ways people can do yoga at home?

There are yoga books, yoga cards, DVDs, and home yoga courses.  Now there are even yoga classes on the internet 24/7 via online video streaming
.

I don’t mean to freak you out.  The fact is there are many ways to do yoga outside of yoga classes.  In my view this is good for yoga studios.  Why?  Because the more people who do yoga, the more people who will attend yoga studios.

A home yoga practice is great and encouraged; however, yoga classes offer benefits not enjoyed at home.  Yoga class benefits are as follows:

1.    Yoga classes offer community and a social component.

2.    Yoga classes offer instruction and technique correction.

3.    Students will finish a routine in a yoga class, but may quit early at home.

4.    Yoga studios are an information portal.  Many yoga studios I’ve visited offer books, publications, DVDs, and have other informative and interesting items for purchase or use.  Consider adding a lounge or reading area in your studio if you don’t already have one.

5.    I love yoga classes because all I need to do is follow along.  I don’t have to decide which routine, which poses, what to do next, and so forth.  It’s relaxing and enjoyable to follow a leader.

6.    Another major benefit of yoga classes (at least good ones), is they offer variety.  I know sometimes my home routine gets stale.  I get to be surprised and try different yoga poses and routines at the studio I attend.

The point: if you’re passionate about teaching yoga, you offer a nice, clean space, and you put effort into planning your classes, you’re looking at a bright future of yoga growth.

Become familiar with what is out there for your students such as the latest books, DVDs, online yoga offerings, etc.  You could offer it to your yoga students as a complement to what your studio offers.  The more deeply people get into yoga, the more they’ll attend yoga studios.
