Gain Loyal Yoga Students by being their Third Place?

The best way to build a thriving yoga studio business is to have a solid group of loyal yoga students who attend your classes regularly.

Your “regulars” will keep you in business and will provide you many great friendships.  Strive for yoga student regulars.  How?

One way is to adopt the mantra of becoming your yoga students’ third place.  First places are our homes, second places are our workplaces, the third places are communal places that “facilitate and foster broader, more creative interaction.”

Yoga studios are the perfect third place

I know space costs money, but in my view a yoga studio is a perfect place for creating a lounge-like atmosphere.  It’s a place where like-minded individuals can both recreate and relax.

When I was a kid, I loved hotel lobbies.  I loved the couches and large chairs amidst the activity.  I liked the “living room in public” concept.  I still do.

Starbucks went global with the third place concept

Starbucks went global in part with striving to be their customers’ third place.  You don’t need to strive for global franchising, but creating a lounge-like space in your yoga studio will be a place your students will congregate.  When people congregate in your studio, they’re sure to take more yoga classes and have their friends join.

Get creative with the concept; add magazines, books, retail items, art, music, a deck or patio, tea, juice bar, etc.  Ask your students what else you could provide.  The more yoga students who hang out at your studio, the better chance your studio will thrive.

If retail banks are doing it, then why not your yoga studio.  I’d rather hang out with friends in a yoga studio than a bank.
