When I hear what some yoga and meditation teachers do to students, I’m appalled. In fact, I wonder how many teachers have any students at all. Let me tell you about a tragic happening.
Someone I know who has cancer recently took up yoga and meditation to improve wellbeing while dealing with illness. Also, maybe for healing. She was in the yoga class, and was understandably low on energy. She opted for child pose and other very cooling poses while the class carried on. The teacher became upset that a pupil didn’t do what was taught and asked the ill person to leave the class.
This is tragic and alienates people from yoga and meditation. Customer service starts in the yoga class. Nothing deters people from yoga than an egotistical teacher that can’t let people veer from the instruction. Okay, goofing off isn’t cool and shouldn’t be tolerated. But, if someone stops asana to meditate or go into child’s pose, let them and encourage it.
As a yoga teacher – be flexible in body and in attitude.
